Endorsement from the American Lifeguard Association®

We would like to extend our thanks for your interest in obtaining an endorsement from the American Lifeguard Association (ALA) and for supporting our water safety programs and environmental efforts. These initiatives work toward making our beaches and waterways cleaner and safer for future generations.

The American Lifeguard and Safety Training™ is a trademark associated with the health and safety courses of the American Lifeguard Association®. For over 30 years, the ALA has offered lifeguard training programs, certifying over 250,000 individuals worldwide. The U.S. Department of Labor recognizes our lifeguard programs as equivalent to those provided by the American Red Cross.

We take pride in our excellent reputation, frequently appearing in national news to provide expert opinions on water safety. Over the years, we have received support from major corporate sponsors like Kmart, TYR, Nike, Oakley, Coppertone, VDL, LG, and Verizon. Additionally, we have collaborated with national agencies such as the American Chemistry Council and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to enhance safety in aquatic environments.

As part of our endorsement process, there is an initial reassessment fee of $1,000 for reviewing the product or service seeking endorsement. If your product or service is accepted, an annual endorsement fee will apply, with the fee varying depending on the nature of the product or service.

ALA Endorsements for Water Safety Products

Our endorsements extend beyond services and training programs to include any water safety product, such as sunscreens, flotation devices, rescue equipment, and other products related to swimming activities. These endorsements ensure that the products used by lifeguards and swimmers meet the highest standards of effectiveness and safety.

ALA endorses sunscreens designed to protect lifeguards and swimmers from harmful UV rays during prolonged sun exposure. Likewise, flotation devices, rescue gear, and other water safety products must be reliable and effective in emergencies to ensure successful rescues. ALA-endorsed products are trusted by aquatic professionals for meeting rigorous safety standards and supporting lifeguard efforts to maintain safe swimming environments.

A Commitment to Environmental Responsibility

The ALA is deeply committed to raising public awareness of both governmental and personal responsibility in aquatic environmental issues. Our goal is to protect the world we live in, preserving the health of our beaches and waterways for future generations. We have worked on environmental initiatives such as the “H2O Think Blue Too” movement, in partnership with Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of famed ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau, and founder of the Ocean Futures Society. Through these efforts, we have contributed to improving aquatic environments worldwide.

Media and Public Service

In addition to product endorsements, the ALA plays an active role in promoting public safety through service announcements and interviews with national news outlets. Our viewpoints on water safety have been aired across major networks such as NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX. From interviews on shows like “NBC Today Show” and “Good Morning America” to educational features in magazines and newspapers, we strive to spread awareness about water safety and the importance of lifeguard training. For example, you can view our endorsement of beach umbrella safety in a Good Morning America segment linked here: [Beach umbrella safety warning].

Enhancing Your Brand with ALA’s Endorsement

An endorsement from the ALA enhances the credibility and visibility of your product or service. As an organization that has trained and certified hundreds of thousands of lifeguards, our endorsement is a seal of trust that customers recognize and value. We are confident that an ALA endorsement will enhance your product’s market presence and contribute to your company’s overall image and reputation.
